Primary Information is excited to be celebrating our tenth anniversary during the 2016–2017 programming season. Like many organizations, we began with late-night conversations, a shoestring budget, a little ambition, and a lot of ideas. Our devotion to the medium of artists’ publications has always been two-fold: to support the history of artists’ books by publishing out-of-print historical publications that remain central to ongoing artistic discussions; and to support contemporary working artists by publishing their books and projects. Since our founding, we have supported over 400 artists and produced more than 100 publications in print and online.

Firmly believing that artists’ books should not just be for collectors, Primary Information prices all our books at cost in an effort to maintain a low price point. During our current programming year, we will hit another benchmark that makes us very proud: we will have paid artists over $100,000 in artist fees and royalties. We have accomplished all this through the generosity of our amazing community of friends and colleagues, peer organizations, and forward-thinking foundations and supporters, and we are now in need of your support again.

Since 2006, Primary Information’s programming has grown steadily to ten publications in 2016, and our goal is to double this number over the next decade. Production costs will increase in tandem with our growing scheduling, and as a result we anticipate direct printing expenses to rise to $75,000 during our anniversary programming season alone. To help cover these increased expenses, we are establishing an annual Print Fund goal of $50,000 so that individuals and friends worldwide can contribute funds (at any level), and help us continue to make affordable and important artists’ publications.

Your support of the Print Fund by making a fully tax-deductible donation will prove invaluable to Primary Information’s continued support of artists, ensuring the production of another hundred artists’ publications in the years to come. Additionally, you can support the organization by joining as a subscriber to receive all our annual titles.
